Naagkesar Churna : Description , Benefits , Side Effects

NAAGKESAR CHURNA 

 

Naagkeasr Churna is an ayurvedic product used in treating fever, vomiting, urinary tract disorders, migraine etc. It is one among Chaturjata group of herbs. It is used as in powder form along with other spices, and put into many herbal jams including Chyawanprash. It is best for Bleeding Disorders such as Menorrhagia, Piles, Metorrhagia, Epistaxis.

 

Nagkesar is a slow-growing, evergreen tree which is mostly found in wet and tropical regions of India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, and Singapore. Nagkesar has immense medicinal significance due to its proven health benefits. Different parts of the Nagkesar tree — its leaves, Stamens, flowers, and seed oil — are used for treating several disorders and health conditions.

 

The Latin name of Nagkesar is Mesua ferrea. It belongs to the Calophyllaceae family. The Nagkesar tree, which can grow up to a height of 1500 meters, is specifically known for the hardness of its timber.

 

Nagkesar is called Ceylon Ironwood, Indian Rose Chestnut, Iron Wood Tree or Cobra’s Saffron in English. Its other vernacular names are: Naghas or Nogkesar in Hindi; Karunangu in Tamil; Nagsampige or Kanchana in Kannada; Naga kesar in Punjabi; Nagesar in Bangali; Nagachampa in Marathi; Nabor in Assamese; Nagachampakam in Malayalam; Naga kesaralu in Telugu; and Naremushk in Persian.

 

Nagkesar contains chemicals like Mensuol, Silosterol, Fatty Acids, Cyclohaxodine, Histamine, Prostaglandin, Mesuanic Acid, Amyrin, and other acids, which exhibit wide-ranging activities.

 

Nagkesar has antioxidant, analgesic, antispasmodic, antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-venom, anti-peptic, and anti-asthmatic, anti-arthritic properties. In addition, it is also known for its digestive, diuretic, expectorant, and liver-protective actions. The use of Nagkesar is particularly indicated in bleeding disorders like Piles, Epistaxis Menorrahagia, and Metrrohagia. In addition, some of the other therapeutic indications of Nagkesar include Fever, Nausea, Leprosy, Polydipsia (excessive thirst), and Impotency.

 

 

DOSAGE

 

1/2 to 1 teaspoonful twice daily with plain water after the meals or as directed by the physician.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS

 

The use of Nagkesar or its herbal formulations do not have any known or serious side-effects. However, the following precautions should be taken while using Nagkesar powder:

 

Ø               People suffering from Diabetes, Heart disease, and other conditions should use Nagkesar powder under medical supervision.

Ø               The use of Nagkesar powder should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ø               Excessive consumption of Nagkesar powder should be avoided.

Ø                Nagkesar powder should be kept away from the reach of children.
